Dr Mohammed Lashkri
Psychiatrist and Clinical Researcher, University of Oxford
Dr Mohammed Lashkri is a psychiatrist and clinical researcher working at the University of Oxford. His current clinical work focuses on treatment-resistant depression, where he works with patients whose symptoms have not responded to standard treatments.
Alongside this work, he has studied neurodevelopmental conditions in depth, developing a strong interest in how differences in brain development shape attention, motivation, and behaviour across the lifespan.
At the centre of his intellectual interests is neuropsychopharmacology — the study of how brain chemistry and medication interact with the neural systems involved in mental health disorders. This perspective brings together psychiatry, neuroscience, and pharmacology to better understand the biological mechanisms that influence mental health.
Through clinical practice and writing, he aims to make complex ideas in neuroscience and psychiatry easier to understand. Much of his work explores the question of how the brain moves from intention to action, and why that process can sometimes become disrupted.
These ideas form the foundation of Stuck, Not Lazy, a book that examines the neuroscience behind ADHD paralysis and the hidden mechanisms that influence action, motivation, and executive function.
Through The Decode Journal, Dr Lashkri writes occasional essays that translate complex neuroscientific ideas into clear explanations. The aim is not simply to present research, but to make the science of the mind more understandable for a wider audience.
Dr Lashkri’s current clinical work focuses on treatment-resistant depression, with an interest in understanding the neurobiological mechanisms that influence treatment response.
